Introduction

It is important for museums to collect artefacts that will be invaluable to future generations of people. This project is a VR museum showcase designed to provide people with an interactive experience to enjoy a virtual museum tour without leaving their homes. Users interact with the project using their computer mouse.

Description of the VR museum

As long as users have a mobile phone or a computer connected to the internet, they will be able to browse VR museums wherever they are. The application gives users the opportunity to interact with an exhibit through viewing and gripping as well as accessing information more effectively about the exhibit. 

In addition to allowing humans and machines to interact in the virtual world, the Oculus headset and hand controllers help advance technology.

Interaction Design

The only way teachers could present their students with photos or videos was in 2D without VR technology. Text, pictures, and videos are the only ways in which a teacher can show a large collection in class. 

The VR museum solved the drawbacks of museum experiences in real life. Students can also pick up and visit an exhibit up close at any time, without looking through glass or reading the illustrations. They are able to learn more and engage better than in real museums. Students gain a deeper understanding and memory of the display item through this method.

Technical Development

 The Unity 3D software application was used to develop a prototype using VR interface technology for the Oculus Quest 1 headset, using VR interface technology.

Virtual hands, interactions to pick up objects with the hands and avatar teleportation are some of the key features implemented in the interface for a simulated museum space.

A virtual space can be navigated by moving the controllers physically or by using thumbsticks on them.
